"My passion in life is to bring beauty and order in to other people's lives" - Patty Racine
Patty Racine is an interior designer that has been a part of the Upper Room family for over a decade. She has over 20 years of design experience, having graduated the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Interior Design, and a previous background in landscape design.
Prior to joining Upper Room Home Furnishings, Patty worked primarily on residential design, with emphasis on spatial awareness, floor plans, custom furniture and colour palettes. Her passion for colour brings a fresh take to any room in a home.
Patty comes from a family of artists and imaginative creators. Growing up Patty would constantly arrange her bedroom, wanting to always re-organize and bring a new look to her space. Her love of textiles, design and colour introduced sewing into her life. Patty was guided towards a career in interior design and decor by a teacher that took an interest in her talents.
Sue Kayser has been an integral part of the Upper Room. Her experience in design and extensive furniture knowledge makes her an asset to any home design project.
"I am one of the lucky ones. I found the thing I love the most and I am making a career out of it. My first career was as a real estate agent and I quickly realized that I was more interested in redecorating the home than in selling it. I raised my children (two wonderful women), and never missed an opportunity to paint, re-organize and decorate often working with the kids in tow. After the kids were grown, I went back to school for Interior Decorating. Upon graduating I decided so see if others liked my work and if the reaction of my clients is any indication, they love the effect that we can have working together.
Having spent my life designing, I have learned that the key is not my taste, but yours. My role is to help you realize your dream, by bringing my experience, training, sense of space, color and texture to your home."
"Travel gave me an appreciation for great design, unique objects, and also the comforts of home. More than ever now, there is nothing better than being in a beautiful, inviting space.”
Amy Findlay brings creative energy and a fresh approach to every project in which she’s involved:
“Finding the right furniture that perfectly fits and functions in your space, and that reflects your style, is important. I can show you the possibilities in materials, textiles, colour, and accessories. Show you how to add texture, light, mix in traditional pieces, create interest in any space. It’s exciting showing people what could be.”
Amy turned a love for fine furniture and art into a career after completing the interior decorating course at Algonquin College. Originally from Toronto, she’s been a resident of downtown Ottawa since her days at Carleton University, where she studied Communications and English Literature.
She is also a former member of the Canadian Women’s Professional Hockey League and is a certified sommelier.
"Design is in my blood." - Uzyol Bahrdey
"My family has owned a successful design business for 35 years serving various residential and commercial clients. Watching my Father transform clients spaces over the years I knew this was the career for me. After studying Interior Design it was inevitable that I would enter the family business. In my work for the firm I created more that 100 floor plans as well as learn the various processes required to implement and install projects.
I enjoy getting to know each clients personalities and passions so I can transform their space into a true reflection of their dreams. I appreciate that every project is unique and that budgets may vary as well. Regardless, of the budget or priority of the room, the process and outcome are the same. It is a sheer joy for me when clients see their completed spaces and all the selections we made come together to create a home that is truly theirs."
